The Unique Certification of Special Education Teachers

In Florida, there are two paths to become certified in Exceptional Student Education:

1. Degree-Based Certification: A bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to special education, such as exceptional student education, mental disabilities, specific learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, or physical impairments.
2. Course-Based Certification: A bachelor’s degree along with 30 semester hours covering core aspects of ESE, including foundations of special education, assessments, positive behavioral support, language development, and effective communication with students, families, and other education professionals.
