General FAQs About Pepin Academies

What grades does Pepin Academies serve?

3rd-12th grade with a transition program for students up to 22 years of age who defer receipt of their diploma.

What therapies does Pepin Academies offer?

For students who qualify, therapy is provided, at no cost, with access to social workers, mental health counselors, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech language pathologists.

What extra curriculars are available for students?

Pepin Academies offers athletics, clubs, performing arts as well as after school social opportunities for students.

Does Pepin Academies provide transportation?

No, Pepin Academies is not able to provide transportation. However, there may be resources available to assist families with transportation needs.

Why does Pepin Academies start school in July?

Pepin Academies follows a modified calendar to help reduce retention loss over the summer. Students have the same amount of total school days as the school district but have more breaks throughout the year and a shorter summer.

How much is tuition?

Pepin Academies is a non-profit public charter school. There is no tuition. 

Do you participate in the Florida K-12 scholarship programs?

There is no tuition, so a scholarship is not needed.

Do students have to wear a uniform?

Yes, Pepin Academies students are required to wear a uniform.

Where can I purchase uniforms?

All uniforms must be purchased from Risse Brothers School Uniforms at one of their local stores or online at https://www.rissebrothers.com/shop.cfm

Does Pepin Academies offer Before or After Care?

Yes, all Pepin Academies campuses offer Before and After Care programs.

What are the school hours?

Instructional hours are 8:30-3:15

Admissions FAQs

What does my child need to be eligible to apply?

Students must have a learning disability and an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

My child has a 504, does that qualify?

No, Pepin Academies is an ESE center. All students must have an IEP to attend.

My child doesn’t have an IEP; how do I get one?

To be eligible for an IEP, students must meet specific eligibility criteria as described in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act criteria. You may contact your local school district to find out more information.

What if my child has an expired IEP?

It is recommended that you obtain an updated IEP. However, if that is not possible you can apply with the most recent IEP. Upon review you may be asked to provide additional documentation.

Do you accept IEPs from out of state?

Yes, however in addition to the most recent IEP you may be required to provide additional documentation from the student’s initial eligibility.

Do you accept IEPs from out of the country?

No, we are unable to accept IEPs from outside the US, unless the student attended a Department of Defense Education Activity.

How do I apply?
Can Pepin Academies request the required documents from my child’s school?

No, Pepin Academies is not able to request documents for a student who is not currently enrolled. A parent/guardian must request copies of the records from the child’s current school.

If my child is on the waitlist how long will we have to wait to be accepted?

Unfortunately, there is no way to predict when a spot will become available. Once all spots are filled in the annual lottery the only way a spot will open is if a current student withdraws.

What are the lottery dates for the 2024-2025 School year?
  • Applications Due: February 25, 2024
  • Lottery held: March 19, 2024
  • Parents will be notified of lottery results: April 5, 2024
Is it too late for me to apply?

Pepin Academies is always accepting applications. There is a deadline each year to be included in the annual lottery, however you may apply to be added to our waitlist at any time. 

What happens if I apply after the lottery has been held?

Your application will be reviewed and if appropriate the student will be added to the waitlist.

What are the Before Care/After Care hours?
  • Before Care is offered from 7:00-7:30AM for $2.00/day.
  • After Care is offered until 5:30PM for $11/day.
  • Both programs require registration and auto-draft authorization for payments.
What are the front office hours?

Our office is open from 7:30AM-3:30M

How can I view my child’s grades?

What is the make-up work policy?

A student who is absent is permitted to make up work missed. Parent or student must make arrangements to pick up work. The student is allowed the total number of days they were absent to make up work that was missed during an absence. If the student misses a participation activity, they will be provided with an opportunity to complete an alternate assignment. If the alternate assignment is not submitted, the student will not receive participation credit for the days they missed class.

Is the campus fully gated and secure?

Yes, our campus is gated and secure.

Transition FAQs

Who is eligible to attend the transition program?

Students who have met the requirements for graduation and elected to defer receipt of their diploma may attend the transition program up to age 22.

Do students get paid?

No, this is an unpaid internship for the students.

Do you provide transportation?

No. Students are picked up and dropped off directly at the jobsite. There are some occasions where students may travel via school van.

Where is the classroom?

Classrooms for the following locations:

  • Hillsborough: 700 E. Twiggs Street, Tampa.
  • New Port Richey: On campus at  7710 Osteen Road, New Port Richey.
How long are students on their jobsite?

Students remain at their jobsite for the school year.

Can I request specific sites?

Yes, students and parents can request sites. However, these are not guaranteed, as there is a lot of coordination involved with student placement.

Athletics FAQs

What sports are offered?

When does each sport start?

When are the practices/games?

Each coach will communicate a full practice/game schedule at the start of the season.

Where do I get more info on a specific sport?

You can reach out to the athletic director or to the coach for the sport your child participates in/wishes to participate in.

How much is each sport?

Currently the athletic fee for each sport is $50.

What is covered by the athletic fee?

Athletic fees help cover the cost of a uniform to borrow for the season, officiant fees, league fees, court/field costs, county fees, and a small stipend for our coaches.

When is registration due for each sport?

Registration is due prior to the first day of practice for each sport. Due dates will be communicated through the school newsletter.

 

How do I register?

What paperwork do I need?

All participants need to complete:

  • EL-2 form (physical)
  • EL-3 (waiver of liability)
  • Athletic emergency information

ALL High School athletes must complete courses on www.nfhslearn.com:

  • heat illness
  • sudden cardiac arrest
  • concussion
  • Some coaches/sports may require additional paperwork.
What equipment do I need to provide for my child?

Equipment needs will vary from sport to sport. If you have not received any information on equipment needed, please reach out to the coach for that sport.

What commitment do I have as a parent?

Your team coach may select a Team Parent to help with communication, dugout, and other items.  All athletes must be picked up following competition and/or practice in a timely manner. Parents are expected to be ready to receive their children when that transportation returns to school.

Do I need to get a new physical if I have already participated on a previous sports team this year?

No, sports physicals are valid for the entire school year.

What is the Pepin Academies’ refund policy?

Refunds will only be given if the season is cancelled. No refunds will be given for players that are removed from the team for academic/behavioral reasons or that quit the team prior to the season ending.

How can I sponsor a team/player?

Donations are always greatly appreciated. You can reach out to the athletic director for sponsorship opportunities or simply sponsor an athlete while you register your child.

What if the sport I am interested in is not offered?

Charter school students who meet specified academic and conduct requirements are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities at the public school to which the student would be assigned or could choose to attend according to district school board policies or may develop an agreement to participate at a private school unless such activity is provided by the student’s charter school.

Wesley Chapel Campus

A new Wesley Chapel campus is projected to open in July 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.  The school will be located near the Kirkland Ranch Academy of Innovation and plans to open with grades 3-6 and expand to grades 3-12 over the next 5 years (subject to change).
