Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does my child need to be eligible to apply?

Students must have a learning disability and an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

My child has a 504, does that qualify?

No, Pepin Academies is an ESE center. All students must have an IEP to attend.

My child doesn’t have an IEP; how do I get one?

To be eligible for an IEP, students must meet specific eligibility criteria as described in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act criteria. You may contact your local school district to find out more information.

What if my child has an expired IEP?

It is recommended that you obtain an updated IEP. However, if that is not possible you can apply with the most recent IEP. Upon review you may be asked to provide additional documentation.

Do you accept IEPs from out of state?

Yes, however in addition to the most recent IEP you may be required to provide additional documentation from the student’s initial eligibility.

Do you accept IEPs from out of the country?

No, we are unable to accept IEPs from outside the US, unless the student attended a Department of Defense Education Activity.

How do I apply?
Can Pepin Academies request the required documents from my child’s school?

No, Pepin Academies is not able to request documents for a student who is not currently enrolled. A parent/guardian must request copies of the records from the child’s current school.

If my child is on the waitlist how long will we have to wait to be accepted?

Unfortunately, there is no way to predict when a spot will become available. Once all spots are filled in the annual lottery the only way a spot will open is if a current student withdraws.

What are the lottery dates for the 2024-2025 School year?
  • Applications Due: February 25, 2024
  • Lottery held: March 19, 2024
  • Parents will be notified of lottery results: April 5, 2024
Is it too late for me to apply?

Pepin Academies is always accepting applications. There is a deadline each year to be included in the annual lottery, however you may apply to be added to our waitlist at any time.

What happens if I apply after the lottery has been held?

Your application will be reviewed and if appropriate the student will be added to the waitlist.

Who is eligible to attend the transition program?

Students who have met the requirements for graduation and elected to defer receipt of their diploma may attend the transition program up to age 22.

Do students get paid?

No, this is an unpaid internship for the students.

Do you provide transportation?

No. Students are picked up and dropped off directly at the jobsite. There are some occasions where students may travel via school van.

Where is the classroom?

Classrooms for the following locations:

  • Hillsborough: 700 E. Twiggs Street, Tampa.
  • New Port Richey: On campus at  7710 Osteen Road, New Port Richey.
How long are students on their jobsite?

Can I request specific sites?

Yes, students and parents can request sites. However, these are not guaranteed, as there is a lot of coordination involved with student placement.
